Dr. Vincent E. and Mrs. Frances B. Reed
A Wonderful Legacy!
In 2013, West Virginia State University graduates Dr. Vincent E. and Mrs. Frances B. Reed established a scholarship to provide funds to support WVSU students. The Reeds met as students at West Virginia State University and were married for more than 60 years.
Dr. Vincent E. Reed graduated from West Virginia State in 1952 and joined the Washington, D.C. Public School System as a print shop teacher in 1956. He went on to become superintendent of the D.C. Public School System in 1975, a position he held until 1980.
Mrs. Frances B. Reed graduated from West Virginia State in 1957 and became an elementary school teacher with the D.C. Public School System. After receiving her master's degree in 1963, she became a reading specialist on the elementary level, where she remained until her retirement in 1987.
To continue their legacy of commitment to education, Mrs. Frances B. Reed has provided a generous bequest to endow the Dr. Vincent E. and Mrs. Frances B. Reed Scholarship that will ensure that future generations of Yellow Jackets have an opportunity to pursue their education.
